Rip-offs, free credit reports

For $179 a year you can have Experian, who owns freedreditreport.com, monitor you credit report. Monitor what?

That is not free. By law, Americans can receive a free credit report once a year. The federal trade commision has a website for consumers to request their yearly credit report from all three credit reporting agencies. www.anualcreditreport.com

Funny how Experian can get away with false and misleading advertising. If you have any questions about this check with the BBB and over 11,000 complaints.

Why do we as Americans have to pay for information that is OUR personal business?

Wireless minute scam

After reviewing charges that were made on a pay-as-you-go phone plan, I decided to check on the time and the charge associated with this.

On the phone it said the time of the call was 1:47. So knowing the phone company round UP to the minute, I should have been charged for 2 minutes. I was charged for 3 minutes. Huh? Where did the extra minute come into play?

So I logged online to check the account and sure enough, I was charged for 3 minutes and the time stamp online was 2:11. I called customer service , which I might add took me over 15 minutes to find a phone number to call on the wireless site.

After making the call, I spoke to a lovely Supervisor and explained my distress over the difference in the time of the call. At first I was instructed to not charge my phone everyday and to let it run down to one bar. To be clear, I mentioned that I do not charge my phone everyday and I always let it run down.

So knowing I was not going to get anywhere with this, I asked the representative to please show me online where I could find the contract that explains the charges.

After 45 minutes, she was not able to find or show me anything on their corporate site explaining my original concerns.

And the difference between the length of the call on my phone and online was never answered.

Interesting.....

I wonder how much money the wireless companies make with this blatant error? Think about it, I am just one individual that they made 20 cents on.....now multiply that by thousands.....now you understand what I am talking about?

My next step was to contact the FCC and file a formal complaint. Lets see where this takes us.

Rip-offs, text messaging

Sending a text message costs the American consumer between 10 and 20 cents per text.

It costs the carriers one third of once cent to send the message! "OMG"...that just cost 20 cents!

So actually, the carriers are making PURE profit for something that really should cost pennies.

For more information on this please visit CNN/Money at http://money.cnn.com/galleries/2010/news/1001/gallery.americas_biggest_ripoffs/index.html

This is amazing to me. The carriers say they use the money for new technology. Would this new technology be something like an accounting program to keep track of the huge bonuses?

State Farm drops Florida

State Farm Insurance will not renew thousands of Florida Insurance policies. They have not written policies in Florida for two years.

Personally I think State Farm should be required to offer all of its insurance services if they want to do business in the state of Florida.

Haiti Nationals protective status

Haiti Nationals have special protective status.

"Also, a temporary protected status has been established for Haitian nationals who were in the United States as of the day of the earthquake.

U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano estimated that 100,000 to 200,000 Haitian nationals are in the United States illegally. The temporary status allows them to stay for 18 months, authorizing them to work and send remittances back to Haiti, she said last week."
